FIBO
FIBO Overview
The FIBO allows manual access to all signal lines connecting the test system with the Unit Under Test (UUT). For error injection, monitoring and self-test purposes, access to each single signal line is needed both manually and automatically.
TechSAT's Fault Insertion & Break-Out System offers both a modular breakout panel and numerous computer-controlled standard functions. This solution considerably simplifies and accelerates testing, diagnosis, and integration work in Hardware-in-the-Loop environments.
As part of the Avionics Development System (ADS2) System Integration Bench (SIB) [hyperlink to ADS2 System Integration Bench], the Fault Insertion & Breakout system has proven its excellence for the integration of avionics equipment.
The FIBO is comprised of the following main components:
- Signal Routing & Breakout Module (BRM)
- The Signal Routing allows routing of each signal line under computer-control to the Fault Insertion Bus (FI-bus)
- The Breakout Panel allows manual interception of all signals via jumpers
- Fault Insertion & Manipulation (FIM) and External Device Access (EDA) Modules
- The Fault Insertion Module is used for computer-controlled error simulation
- he External Device Access Module (EDA) allows connecting all UUT signals via the Fault Insertion Bus to external devices such as DMM, Frequency Generator, Oscilloscope or Scanner.
Each FIBO module is equipped with an RS485 bus interface. Up to 32 FIBO modules can be controlled via one common RS-485 bus using the FIBO relay control bus protocol. The FIBO SW package executed on the host computer controls all relays on all FIBO modules connected to the relay control busses.
The FIBO modules can be supplemented by Form C switching modules (FCS-S) to cover standard signal switching requirements independently from the FIBO function.
Feature Highlights
The BOS board is provided with the following salient functions and features:
- 10 independent, completely galvanically isolated channels for breakout & switching
- High-precision scan function
- Parallel signal measurement and generation for real-time applications
- Internal / external shunts and loads for signal environment simulations
- 2 / 4 wire measurement modes configured via unique board addressing in multi-board environments
FIBO Description
The FIBO System is available as signal and power version to cater for different signal types. Signal FIBO can handle up to 2A, power FIBO can switch up to 8A. Each section is divided into two functional areas: Break-Out and Routing area and Fault Insertion and Manipulation area. Both functional areas communicate with each other via a 4 channel duplex Fault Insertion Bus (FI bus).
FIM-S - Fault Insertion Module – Standard signal
The FIM-S permits the following signal manipulations:
- Signal line interruption
- Transfer resistance
- Resistance between two signal lines
- Resistance to Ground
- Short circuit between two signal lines
- Short circuit to Ground.
EDA-S –External Device Access Module – Standard signal
The EDA-S permits the access to measurement and stimulation devices external to the FIBO System.
- Rear panel connection
- DMM voltage between two signals
- DMM voltage Ground
- DMM current
- DMM resistance, 2-wire / 4-wire
- Frequency generator between two signals
- Frequency generator Ground
- Front panel connection:
- External device (e.g. oscilloscope) between two signals
- External device Ground
The EDA-S has 2 piggy-back sockets to accommodate UUT specific signal functions i.e. filter, limiter but also to establish an FI-bus link to other FIBO units.
FIM-P - Fault Insertion Module – Power signal
The Fault Insertion and Manipulation Area for power signals are located on one board, the Fault Insertion Module (FIM-P).
The FIM-P permits the following signal manipulations:
- Signal line interruption
- Transfer resistance
- Resistance between two signal lines
- Resistance to Ground
- Short circuit between two signal lines
- Short circuit to Ground
FIBO GUI
The FIBO is equipped with a serial interface used to control the Routing relays and the FIM relays. The Windows-based FIBO GUI lets the operator configure any valid FIBO combination by simple point-and-click on interactively displayed selection lists of logical signal names, resistors, and instruments. Since the system supports multi-tasking, all functions can be executed independently from and asynchronously to all other system activities.
