Application Area

Avionics maintenance, testing, integration and troubleshooting in both mobile and stationary environments require handy and easy-to-use equipment, which offers highest performance as well as large-scale flexibility in very small dimensions. Combined with a comprehensive ARINC 429 interface, the widespread USB Standard establishes the most efficient platform for standard analyzing and simulation tools as well as specific ARINC 429 applications. By utilizing standard notebook PCs maximum mobility and flexibility can be reached. The demanding real-time requirements of ARINC 429 protocol communications and the handling of the increasing amount of information and data exchanged via ARINC 429 must be supported by local on-card processing power.

Features

The A429USB is an intelligent ARINC 429 USB card with an on-card CPU. It is based on USB Standard V1.1 and thus compatible with USB V2.0. It is in fact a complete computing engine in USB form factor, equipped with 2 non-multiplexed Tx channels and 4 Rx channels. Both Rx and Tx channels are equipped with a lightning protection circuit. Additionally, a total of 6 Discrete-In lines and 4 Discrete-Out lines (both 28V/Open/GND configurable) are available.

A429USB Firmware / Software

The A429USB firmware is programmed from the PC into the 1 MB Flash via USB. It features more than 50 functional interface modules. Starting from simple functions such as a configuration command up to enhanced dynamic data update functions like the autonomous sine/ramp/list functions or Data replay. Any functional entity is represented by an individual interface function.

The software interface is available for any Microsoft Windows beginning with WIN98 (driver and DLL). Windows plug&play is supported.

Compatibility

The Software Interface of the A429USB is compatible with the former A429PCC ARINC 429 PC-card (PCMCIA) from TechSAT. Hence, it is ensured that any PC application written for the A429PCC card can be easily ported to the A429USB. Any standard A429PCC application available from TechSAT is also provided for the A429USB USB device. The A429BAST Bus Analyzer & Simulation Tool for Windows is able to support all types of TechSAT ARINC 429 interface boards.

Mechanical Outline

The A429USB assembly consists of a USB V1.1 connector and an external metal case housing all electronic components. The computing resources, ARINC 429 bus interface section including the transmitter power generation (5V->+/-15V) and Tx-Rx wrap-around relays are held in this robust pressure casting box.
